Rising Work Cycle Classes 8:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Rising Work Cycle Preparation Class (Jamii Room): This class is the pre-requisite to Rising Work Cycle Class. It takes time for the child to become accustomed to a new environment and routine, this class begins with small group and individual instruction and as your child develops independence within our space and mastering their lessons, they will move towards and engage in a true independent Rising Work Cycle, joining other independent learners in the Jitambua Room. The Jitambua Room is an intentionally planned African centered Montessori environment where children lead the way on their learning journey.  Families are required to send their child with a healthy breakfast or snack, packed in a lunch box the child can open independently.
Jamii means "community" and emphasizes the collaborative learning enviornment where children interact and learn from their Guides and each other in small groups before joining the Jitambua room.

What do children do in the Rising Work Cycle? In a Montessori classroom, children work for 2-3 hours in the rising. It is an uninterrupted independent immersion where children can choose their lesson or a lesson with a guide's help. Once children walk into the classroom, they socialize with their friends initially and are welcome to enjoy a healthy snack/breakfast brought from home.

Jitambua means "self-discovery" and captures the essence of the learning environment we have prepared for your child in the Jitambua Room, where independence thrives and children explore and learn about themselves and the world around them.

Grace & Courtesy Community Meal Class 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 pm

Grace & Courtesy Community Meal Class:Pack a healthy meal for your child and join our Grace & Courtesy Community Meal Class! Fresh fruit provided. Grace and Courtesy is a fundamental aspect of the Montessori curriculum. It is an essential part of Montessori philosophy, which emphasizes the importance of respect, empathy, and kindness. Grace and Courtesy lessons teach young children how to interact with others in a polite, respectful, and considerate manner.

Rest and Afternoon Work Cycle Class 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Rest and Afternoon Work Cycle Class:  Allow your child to rest in a safe and nurturing environment while you take time for yourself.  If the child is awake, this precious, protected two hour afternoon work time is a cornerstone of Montessori education.

We provide children with an authentic Montessori learning environment.  AMI pedagogical standards maintain the level of excellence that Maria Montessori envisioned. Established by the AMI Scientific Pedagogy Group, the standards ensure that each school offers programs for their children that allow for their full intellectual, social, physical, and psychological growth.

AMI Standards for  Work Cycles for Primary (ages 3-6) Montessori Classrooms require 3 hour uninterrupted work periods 5 risings per week, 2 hour uninterrupted work periods 5 afternoons per week.  When you enroll your child in our Rest and Afternoon Work Cycle Class, if your child chooses not to work, they will join our village in our Afternoon Work Cycle Class engaging with Montessori materials of their choosing, or they will receive small group or individual instruction on a new lesson(s).

Enrichment: Nature/Agriculture or Culture Classes 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Enrichment: Nature/Agriculture or Culture Classes:  Explore the Wonders of Nature: We'll delve into the beauty of our environment, planting seeds in our on-site garden, learning about local wildlife, or creating nature art projects.
Embrace Our Rich Heritage: We'll embark on cultural journeys, exploring stories, music, and traditions from Africa and the diaspora. This might involve learning traditional dances, creating art inspired by African textiles, or listening to folktales.

Follow Their Passions: Does your child have a specific interest outside of these themes? We believe in empowering their curiosity! With teacher guidance, they can delve deeper into their chosen subject through independent exploration or collaborative projects.
